Addis Ababa, Sep 13 (Prensa Latina) The parties in conflict in South Sudan signed a revitalized peace agreement in this capital, almost five years after the outbreak of the war in that country, the newscasts reported today.
Festus Mogae, outgoing president of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (JMEC), said the discussion of the peace process went through different cities in the region and overcame many challenges to reach this point.

Established after the violation of the 2015 agreement, JMEC is responsible for monitoring all aspects of the implementation of the agreement, said the report of the state broadcaster Fana Broadcasting Corporate.

‘I sincerely hope that this initiative announces a new chapter, so I urge everyone not to miss the opportunity,’ said Mogae.

‘The eyes of the world are upon us since the South Sudanese leaders entrusted us with the task of reconciliation. Lasting peace requires the commitment of each person to make that State a democratic and unified place,’ said the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed.

Meanwhile, for the general secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD), Mahboub Maalim, there are reasons to believe that this agreement may be final.

‘First, the consultation process was much broader. Two, this time there were more invited factions. Three, there has been a diversified contribution from each IGAD member,’ concluded Maalim.
