I endorse fully the sentiment and admonition of Brother Girma Kassa directed against those gullible brothers and sisters who have been screaming’ Dr. Abiy our King’ this past week in the States.

I feel gravel nauseated to hear this. People need to ‘keep calm and carry on the noble struggle’ of bringing about a genuine democratically elected government.

Nature evolves in predetermined patterns: day follows night; and adulthood follows childhood and infancy. It is also true beginning of a relationship is a time of euphoria and intoxication.  The infatuated feel exhilarated and giddy with possibility. Anything seems doable. Yet, this euphoria these days seems to lose the needed footing. Now, it’s even annoying. Of course, Dr. Abiy’s own words, where he said he knew he would be the 7th King of Ethiopia, might fuel this romanticization. It is a good fairy tale and we need to leave it at that.

People must understand that such fantasy will evaporate and the euphoria will be gone. It would be a time for a reality check. People need to know this is a serious business – it is a matter of life and death for Ethiopian unity and its people.

People get the government they deserve ringing a bell here. These screaming dudes unbeknown to them want to ‘anoint’ a King over us.

Dr.Abiy is not a King. Ethiopians are not looking for a King. Dr. Abiy is the Chairman of EPRDF, and by default per the organization’s rule, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia – a country of one party system. That’s the truth.

That’s precisely why we, the people, keep the pressure on Dr. Abiy’s administration to see itself no more than a ‘transition government’ that is entrusted (by the support he has garnered because of his pronounced policy statements) with the solemn task of paving the way for a democratically elected government.

Brother Girma Kassa eloquently articulated the apartheid nature of the OPDO administration in the so-called Oromia region. He also strongly argued how the system effectively renders Ethiopians like Brother Girrma and I and million others (a mixed heritage) effectively stateless. I will come back to those issues in a later post.
