Addis Ababa, Jun 14 (Prensa Latina) The Ethiopian government appointed a new board of directors for the industrial conglomerate Metals & Engineering Corp., considered essential in the execution of economic development projects, it was known today in this capital.
The move comes after the cancellation of the leading role exercised in this project by the Army, one of the largest in Africa, also involved in the construction of the Great Renaissance Dam and a fertilizer complex in the state of Oromia.
Now, the only military figure on the council is the new director general of the National Intelligence and Security Services, Adem Mohammed; the rest of the components cover a wide range of officials, ranging from Ambachew Mekonnen, head of the Industry ministry, to the widow of former Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, Azeb Mesfin.
The current ruler, Abiy Ahmed, promised to curb what he described as a favoritism towards security forces in business.
According to experts, officials associated with the movement that overthrew the Ethiopian authorities in 1991 dominated high-ranking government positions during the last quarter of a century, causing disgust in other groups, such as the Oromo and the Amhara.
